The Victron Energy Skylla-IP65 12/70(3) 120-240V (MPN: SKY012070100) is a high-performance 12-V battery charger with three separate charging outputs and a maximum total output current of 70 A. This allows up to three separate 12-V battery banks to be charged using a single charger. Featuring an adaptive seven-stage charging algorithm, lithium-ion charging mode, temperature and voltage compensation, and a VE.Can interface, the device is designed for demanding battery and power systems. The rugged steel housing with IP65 protection rating allows for use even under challenging environmental conditions.

Three full-featured charging outputs
The Skylla-IP65 12/70(3) features three separate charging outputs for powering multiple 12-V battery banks. Each output can be used for a separate battery. However, the charger’s maximum total output current is 70 A and is distributed among the active outputs.
This makes this model particularly suitable for systems with multiple, separate battery banks. Unlike the 1+1 variant, the 12/70(3) does not have a separate starter battery output limited to 3 A.
Adaptive Seven-Stage Charging Algorithm
For battery charging, the Skylla-IP65 uses a seven-stage adaptive charging algorithm. This adjusts the charging process to the battery’s current state or its previous discharge level. After a slight discharge, the constant-voltage phase is correspondingly shorter, while it is extended after a more significant discharge.
The integrated BatterySafe mode limits the voltage rise as soon as the gassing voltage is reached. This protects the battery against excessive gas buildup toward the end of the constant-current phase.
Storage Mode for Extended Periods of Inactivity
If the battery is not discharged for an extended period, the charger reduces the voltage in storage mode. For the 12-V model, the storage charging voltage is 13.2 V. This reduces gas evolution and corrosion on the positive plates during extended periods of inactivity.
The voltage is raised again at regular intervals to counteract electrolyte stratification and sulfation.
Temperature and Voltage Compensation
The Skylla-IP65 includes a battery temperature sensor. Based on the measured battery temperature, the charger can adjust the charging voltage accordingly. If the temperature rises, the charging voltage is reduced.
In addition, the charger supports battery voltage measurement to compensate for voltage losses in the wiring. This allows the actual voltage across the battery to be taken into account during charge control.
Charging Mode for Lithium-Ion Batteries
In addition to the adaptive charging algorithm, a three-stage charging algorithm is available for lithium-ion batteries. Control can be performed via the remote control port or the CAN bus connection. This allows the charger to be integrated into appropriately designed battery systems with a BMS.
For specific combinations with a lithium battery, the specifications provided by the battery and BMS manufacturers must be followed.
VE.Can and Synchronized Parallel Operation
For system communication, the Skylla-IP65 features two RJ45 ports for VE.Can. Victron specifies NMEA2000 as the protocol. Using VE.Can, multiple compatible Skylla-IP65 chargers can be connected to each other and operated in synchronized parallel mode.
This allows the charging capacity to be expanded with multiple units in appropriately designed systems. Additionally, the charger can be integrated into other Victron system components and monitoring solutions.
IP65 Enclosure for Demanding Operating Conditions
The charger features an epoxy powder-coated steel housing with an IP65 rating. The circuit boards are additionally protected against corrosion. This makes the Skylla IP65 series suitable for applications where moisture, dust, or salty air may be present.
Cooling is provided by an internal air circulation system with external cooling. Full output current is available up to an ambient temperature of +40 °C. At higher temperatures, the charger may reduce its output power to keep the power electronics within the specified temperature limits.
Can Also Be Used as a Stabilized Power Supply
In addition to battery charging, the Skylla-IP65 can be used as a power supply with a stabilized output voltage. In the 12-V version, the output voltage can be adjusted within a range of 10 to 16 V. This makes the device suitable for appropriately designed DC applications that require a stabilized power supply.
