Do It Yourself – Install a Solar System on Your Camper

Installing solar panels on a camper is a great way to generate electricity independently and save energy while on the road or camping. Below is a short step-by-step guide for mounting your solar setup:
Step 1: Determine the location of the solar panels
Choose an area on your camper roof that offers enough space for the desired solar panels. Aim for optimal sun exposure and avoid shading from roof racks or other attachments.
Step 2: Prepare the roof and mount the panels
Attach the ABS mounting brackets to the solar panels using the included screws. Thoroughly clean the adhesive surfaces on the roof. Mark the desired position and follow the adhesive manufacturer's instructions to securely bond the brackets and panels.
Step 3: Install the cable entry
Select a suitable spot to route the solar cable into the vehicle interior – ideally hidden, for example through a cabinet. Drill a hole, clean the surface, and mount the cable entry with the appropriate adhesive.
Step 4: Wire the solar panels
Route the cables from the roof to the charge controller inside. Ensure correct polarity and use properly dimensioned cables to minimize power loss between panels and battery.
Step 5: Install the charge controller
Mount the charge controller in a protected, easily accessible location inside the vehicle. Connect it to the solar panels and the battery. The controller protects the battery from overcharging and deep discharge while ensuring optimal charging. Don’t forget to properly fuse the battery connection.
Step 6: Connect the inverter (optional)
If you need 230V AC power, additionally connect an inverter. This device converts the 12V/24V DC from the battery into standard household AC voltage and supplies it to your on-board electrical system.
Note:
The steps mentioned are general recommendations. Depending on your vehicle type and solar setup, variations may be necessary. Please carefully read the relevant manufacturer manuals or contact us if you have questions.
