The Victron Energy Orion XS is a compact and efficient DC-DC converter with an output of 50A.
This converter can perform both step-up and step-down conversion.
Thanks to its compact design, which corresponds to that of the SmartSolar 75/15, as well as an impressive efficiency of 98% (resulting in minimal heat generation) and a VE.Direct interface for monitoring and DVCC (Dynamic Voltage and Current Control), this device is ideal for optimizing the charging of LiFePO4 batteries by alternators, for example, or for charging lead battery circuits from a lithium battery bank.
The Victron Energy Smart BuckBoost can be used both as a battery charger and as a power supply unit with a wide input and output voltage range.
Battery charger mode:
In charging mode, the four-stage charging algorithm extends the battery's service life through precise charging. Thanks to fully adjustable charging algorithms with eight pre-programmed battery setups, optimum charging is ensured for every type of battery. This is particularly important for vehicles with Euro 5 or 6 Smart alternators, which often deliver too low a charging voltage under unfavorable conditions.
The regulated charge also protects the alternator in lithium systems from overloading, as the low impedance of lithium batteries can lead to a high alternator current.
Power supply mode:
In power supply mode, the output voltage remains stable regardless of load changes or fluctuations in the input voltage (within the specified range). The output voltage is fully adjustable and remains constant even if the input voltage fluctuates, thanks to the automatic buck-boost control. This regulation also ensures that the current never exceeds the set value, even if the input voltage is higher than the output voltage.
Intelligent motor detection:
The Smart BuckBoost can be configured so that it only supplies current when the motor is running. This function is made possible by the integrated motor shutdown detection. This eliminates the need to adjust the vehicle wiring or add an additional engine detection sensor. This function also prevents the vehicle's on-board voltage from becoming too low. In addition to automatic detection, the Smart BuckBoost can also be activated via the remote on/off connection.
Configuration and monitoring:
The Smart BuckBoost is programmed and monitored entirely via the VictronConnect app. This also enables remote access via VictronConnect-Remote (VC-R) when connected to a GX device that is connected to the VRM portal. Via the integrated VE.Direct port, the device can be monitored via the GX Remote Console or from a PC, Apple computer with macOS or Android device in conjunction with a VE.Direct to USB interface and VictronConnect.
Üvia a GX device, the Smart BuckBoost can also be intelligently controlled via DVCC, for example by a Lynx Smart BMS.
Waterproof and device-proof:
The Smart BuckBoost complies with the IP65 standard, which means that the device is dustproof and can withstand heavy rain. The heat is dissipated by natural convection, which means there is no need for a loud fan.
