The galvanic insulation prevents electrolytic corrosion. It blocks low-voltage-comparison streams that get into their boat via the earth's ground cable. These currents can cause corrosion on the underwater metals of the boat, such as fuselage, propeller, shaft, etc.
The galvanic insulator consists of two diodes on the inside that are switched on anti -parallel. If you are connected in this way, the diodes have electricity in both directions, but only above a certain threshold tension. The tension, which leads to the diodes, is around 1.4 VDC.
The insulator is installed directly behind the 230V connection of your boat. The passage voltage of the galvanic insulator is higher than the potential difference between the metals. Therefore, this voltage does not allow conductivity, and the galvanic insulator thus prevents any electrolytic current. However, if there is a (higher) fault voltage in the AC circuit, the diodes let a current through and the residual current circuit breaker interrupts the circuit.
