The modular DC remote battery switch (RBS) is an intelligent high-current magnetic protection with interlocking that can handle continuous DC currents of up to 500 A. The RBS can easily be installed in a machine room or battery compartment while being controlled from a more convenient location with a small panel mounted switch. However, the RBS can also be controlled by a battery monitor or a managed lithium battery, for example.
In addition to the remote control of the RBS, buttons on the top also offer the option of opening or closing the main contact on site. The RBS is equipped with a 5-wire interface cable for external control. For optimum flexibility, it can be configured to accept two-wire or one-wire ON/OFF commands.
The RBS is a magnetically latching relay, which means that no current is drawn from the battery when the contact is closed. This is a major advantage compared to conventional relays which require a (sometimes significant) holding current to keep the contact closed.
Another advantage of the RBS is its built-in protection functions. It is protected against high/low supply voltage and high temperature. There is also an intelligent function for automatic fixing of light to medium contact welds. And finally, the RBS is also ISO8846-certified.
As a member of the TBS DC Modular family, the RBS can be part of a very compact DC distribution system. The footprint of the RBS is around 50% smaller compared to some competitor products, making it perfect for installations where space is limited.
