The Cyrix-Li-Charge 12/24V-230A battery coupler from Victron Energy (MPN Cyr010230430) for 12V and 24V LIFEPO4 batteries. It can work with a maximum stream of 230A and, among other things, is an ideal addition to the VE.Bus BMS as a battery switch for loads that the VE.Bus BMS cannot switch independently.

Function of the Cyrix battery couplers in general

The Victron Cyrix-Li-Load 12/24V-230A is a high-performance microprocessor-controlled relay that automatically switches batteries in parallel when a specified voltage value has been achieved (which shows that the battery is loaded) and that the batteries again separates from each other when the voltage drops below the conservation voltage value (which shows that one or both batteries are being discharged). Cyrix battery couplers are ideal for replacing separation diodes. Their main feature is that there is practically no voltage loss, so that the output voltage of the alternating current generators or the battery charger does not have to be increased.

Working method of the Cyrix-Li-Charge 12/24V 230A

The Cyrix-Li-Charge 12/24V-230A combines a battery charger with a delay time of 3 seconds:

  • If the output "Charge Disconnect" of the VE. Bus BMS is high and
  • If he measures 13.7 V (or 27.4 V or 54.8 V) or more on his battery charger connection and
  • If he measures 2 V or more on his battery connection (the Cyrix remains open if it is not connected to the battery).

The Cyrix-Li-Charge switches off immediately when its control output reaches the "Free Floating" state (open circuit), indicates a cell overvoltage or a cell over temperature. In general, a cell surplus alarm is reset shortly after the charging process has been stopped. The Cyrix then connects the charger again. After attempts were made twice to connect the device again over a period of 3 seconds, this delay time is extended to 10 minutes. Whenever the battery voltage is below 13.5 V (or 27 V or 54 V), the Cyrix switches off with a delay time of 1 hour.

Note 1: If the discharge current is equal to 0 or if there is only a very low discharge current, the Cyrix does not switch off shortly after switching off the charger and/or the separation because the battery voltage remains above the value of 13.5 V. Note 2: If the output of the battery charger, after the Cyrix has switched off, immediately increases to 13.7 V or more, the Cyrix switches back in with a delay time of 3 seconds.

Cyrix-Li-Charge as a perfect addition to the Ve.Bus BMS

The Ve.Bus BMS is a central core of the protective precautions for Victron Lifepo4 Batteries. However, not all loads or chargers can be controlled directly via the Ve.Bus BMS. In order to switch off such loads or chargers, several Ve.Bus BMS controllable Cyrix switches are available.
