The Offgridtec 3-way MC4 branch sockets (8-01-010335) are used to connect 3 modules in parallel. In terms of structure, they are identical to the 2-way branch sockets, but you can save costs by using these connectors because you can always connect 3 modules in parallel instead of 2 modules.
Important item specifics
- MC4 triple junction sockets for parallel connection of several solar modules
- Suitable for cables with a cross-section of 4mm²-6mm²
- compatible with PV-KST 4/6II MC 4 connector, ideal for 12V systems and thin-film modules
- Snap-in lock
- Protection class IP67
What does parallel connection mean?
With the parallel connection, the plus and minus lines are bundled at one output. With this circuit, the current increases and the voltage remains the same.
Practical example: You want to connect 3 pieces of 100 Watt (Imp=5.56A Vmp 17.8V) solar modules to a charge controller with 20A and a maximum input voltage of 30V/DC. To ensure that you do not exceed the permitted input voltage, you must wire the modules in parallel. So plus to plus and minus to minus.
If you now measure the string, you should be able to measure the following values under ideal lighting conditions: Imp= 16.68A and Vmp = 17.8V. This means that your solar configuration fits perfectly with the charge controller.
